Nelson Mandela was a journalistpolitician and South-African president from 1994 to 1999. And one of the most famous leaders of the liberation movement African National Congress (ANC). From the 1940s was he prisoned for 27 years, for his resistance against apartheid. 
In 1988 he was taken to the hospital with diagnosed with tuberculosis. And after more than three months in hospital he was transported to Victor Verster Prison, to a house where he was going to spend his last 14 months imprisonment. And where realised from the gates the 11 February 1990. 
After he has been released from prison in the 1990s, he won the country first free election in 1994, and he got the first president in the democratic South Africa.  
In 1993 he got Nobel Peace Prize, for his work with democratictizaion of South Africa. And in 1998 on his 80th birthday he married his 3rd wife Graca Machel. 
He stepped down as a president I 1994 after one term as a president. Despite terrible provocation, he never answered racism with racism. He later died in his home in Johannesburg in 2013.
